The organization was established by our founder Dr. Shilpa Nair on July 11, 2006. Dr. Shilpa Nair had an experience of more than 10 years before starting this laboratory. When she set out to visit Textile industries, Government agencies, Export councils and so many more set-ups, she observed that these organizations are facing a lot of problems in Quality testing, Export rejection due to fungal development in storage of products and so on. Our founder hence took the onus on herself to help out such industries that are facing tremendous challenges with microorganisms. At that particular point of time around year 2002, there were hardly any organizations or laboratory set-ups available to guide these industries on how to tackle such problems and hence a need of microbiology expert was felt who could assist and show the correct way to meet the expected end results to these industries.

The initial testing started with textiles, then went on to plastics and then paints. From that point onwards it was only upwards direction for Biotech Testing Services as we kept on adding more tests and improvising our portfolio according to the needs of industries by standardizing international methods of testing. Eventually our organization went on for ILC within the Indian and overseas market with the likes of AATCC. Regular testing of products led to improvisation of products manufactured in India for Indian and Global markets, hence, taking the reputation of the Indian industries to a higher level. As flag bearers of Microbiology, our organization has helped to give training to microbiologists with a lot of export-oriented units in cotton /textile product manufacturing so that the quality of testing is elevated to International standards. Eventually we started assisting in small-time and major projects for R&D either at Biotech Testing Services premises or on-site assessment.

The brain child for BTS was the holistic approach and problem-solving attitude in the field of microbiology-biotechnology testing. More than 10 years of teaching medical microbiology was a strong foundation of my professional career. Since 2002 I was associated with Indian industries like textile, paint, plastic, ceramic, biocide manufacturers, cosmetic and each had their unique microbiological queries. To assist them, there was a humble beginning of BTS in 2006. Starting Biotech Testing Services (BTS) was an impromptu action. A lot of hard work, perseverance, educational seminars, site visits, and direct interactions with industries led to a unique association with them. One, two, three and the count goes on increasing and the same way good services led to steady growth of laboratory. The customer base also went on expanding all across India and overseas. One individual cannot make a difference without the help of her associates. It is the team effort at BTS that has given us the acclaimed applause all around. It is our desire at BTS that the team gives its best in any circumstances. Today we cater to industry for not less than 100 standard protocols involving Aerobic & Anaerobic bacteria, resistant bacteria, Fungi, Dermatophytes, Algae as well as Viruses. Covid-19 has made Microbiology a common man’s day-to-day topic of discussion. The common man is better familiar with viruses and bacteria due to knowledge sharing through social media and news bulletins, which has had such an impact that a layman can talk on such viruses with authenticity. In view of this, we have today added a virus testing facility in our profile which is a class III facility to undertake virus related testing and R & D. Our mission is to help industries and R&D in India to excel in the products that they make and at the same time bring out the best within BTS and progress with the current times as well. At this point in time, BTS would want to have International exposure as Cost effectiveness and Efficient services will help global industries to contain novel microbiological challenges.
